Boulders Beach

After lunch we headed on towards Cape Point. A few kms down the road take a left at the second Penguin sign you see and TA DA there it is..... BOULDERS BEACH.
This used to be the best kept local secret but someone told someone and now there is a lovely kiosk charging R25 to let you onto the beach to see the jackass penguins. Who's the jackass?
Poor tourists being ripped off again. Now don't tell anyone I told you but... If you go in the early evening entry is free and you will see the penguins coming back from their hard days fishing.

If you have to go during the day, park your car and head back towards the entrance of the parking area where you will see a little wooden gate. Go through it and there are penguins there too. Not the three thousand there are around the corner but enough to take some very decent snaps and of course it is far less smelly!

All these photos were taken on the free side of the beach!

Just Nuisance

After a wonderful time in Jowzi ( the new and trendy name for Johannesburg) we headed off to Cape Town. The 4 generations went on a tour of the peninsula and stopped for lunch in Simon's Town. There is one thing that has to be done when visiting Simon's Town, visit the statue of Just Nuisance. He was a Great Dane that was made an Able Seaman in the 1940's so that he could travel on the train. He died on 1 April 1944 and is buried at Klaver Camp, Redhill, near where this photograph of Simon's Town was taken.

There is a link to his story if you click on the title of this post.

Rach, remember this?? One of the first stops we made all those years ago!
